The vegetarian curry box is BACK!

A selection of 8 traditional vegetarian dishes including pulao and bread from Aktar Islam. Each fortnight Aktar develops a unique menu, depending on produce available as quality is the key. The template stays the same with a selection of curries from across all of India and menus are published fortnightly.

We don’t use any of the artificial additives, flavourings, colours that are normally associated with mainstream curry restaurants and takeaways as all of our recipes are based around traditional home cooking, this also means that we don’t use the large amounts of oil and ghee that is part of the commercial curry house process.

Offering value is important to us. A curry box is enough for a very generous banquet for four, several meals for two, or a whole week of dinners for one. Each curry tends to be portioned between 400g and 600g, each box contains several meals and designed to be eaten over several sittings. The boxes are very generous and everything is suitable  for freezing so you can enjoy them at your choosing.

Demand for our curry boxes is amazing and often sell out on the weekend prior to the delivery. However, you can now order for further weeks in advance by selecting your delivery or collection date.

SAAG CHANNA (V+)

Punjabi spinach and chickpea curry tempered with cumin, coriander seed, roasted chilli flakes.

NIRAMISH (V+)

Lightly spiced Bengali style mixed vegetable curry with a combination of gourds, potato, cauliflower and okra

DHAL PALEK (V+)

Red lentil and spinach tempered with cumin seed, dry chilli and garlic

ALOO MATTAR (V+)

Punjabi potato and green pea curry

KEEMA (V+)

Soy mince cooked with warm spices in an Hyderbadi style. Finished with garden peas, carrot, mint and coriander.

MADRAS (V+)

Roasted aubergine & cauliflower simmered in a spicy coconut milk, tamarind & kashmiri chilli sauce.

KASHIPHAL (V+)

Butternut squash simmered in a sweet jaggery, tamarind, chilli sauce tempered mustard seed and curry leaf.

PANEER CHILLI (D)(V)

Classic indo-chinese street  food curry; paneer cooked in a sweet and spicy chilli sauce with peppers and onions.

RICE & BREADS

Split yellow lentils tempered with asafoetida, curry leaves and sun dried chilli

KONDAI KADALI KUZHAMBU (V+)

South Indian chickpea curry simmered in coconut milk with dried raw mango

Classic Kashmiri curry; aubergine simmered in a tangy sauce soured with tamarind and finished with toasted garam masala

PANCH PORAN ALOO (V+)

Bengali style bhuna. Waxy anya potatoes simmered in a fragrant curry spiced with Bengali panch poran and Kashmiri chilli

LAHSUNI DHAL (V+)

Classic Bengali style red lentils cooked with tomato tempered with garlic and black mustard seed

KEEMA (V+)

Soy mince cooked with warm spices in an Hyderbadi style. Finished with garden peas, carrot, mint and coriander.

Delivery

  • Nationwide delivery – your box will be shipped to you on Wednesday with the special food-safe overnight delivery to be received on Thursday by 6pm. Deliveries are managed by DPD, you will be contacted by them with tracking information. All boxes are packaged securely with wool cool insulating sleeves and ice packs to be safe for an overnight or 2 night transit max, on the rare occasion of courier delays. At which point, we recommend moving into the fridge on arrival. Detailed delivery information

Reheating Instructions

  • Most curries are prepared to be reheated quickly in a pan ready to serve. Some dishes may require reheating in the oven but at most we expect nothing longer than 20 minutes for any part of these curry dishes.
  • Occasionally we release special menus that will require more time for cooking as you will be dealing with raw produce.
  • All pre-cooked curries are suitable for freezing and they reheat amazingly well.

Allergies

  • None of the dishes are suitable for any onion, garlic or tomato allergies.
  • Dishes containing gluten (G), nuts (N), dairy (D) or suitable for vegetarians (V) are marked on the menu.
  • We are unable to alter or swap dishes for dietary requirements but hope the selection would be sufficient for all.  As our menus & recipes are confirmed closer to the date depending on availability we may not always be able to guarantee allergens until the week of production. Please check this page a week before to see what menu you will be receiving, the menu is also published on the @aktarathome Instagram feed.

    I sent this box to my cousin and her partner for the birth of their first son, to help out a bit with some home-style cooked food as they love good food, but have no time to make it and prefer not to eat out because of additives and overly oily dishes. I found an amazing review for this box on the guardian, and chose it both for the taste but also for the health factor.
    They are over the moon with it! They both wrote that it is extremely delicious, and probably the best Indian food they ever had. Being Indian cuisine aficionados; that means something!!!!

    Thank you very very much! I really wanted this to be a great experience for them and this surpassed my expectations!!!! I am already considering repeating this in two or three weeks as the menus change (and also – 8 curries is a lot of variety!!!)

    We have now had three boxes delivered thus far and all have been absolutely fabulous! The portions are both generous and truly delicious. So far there hasn’t been a single dish that hasn’t been really tasty. We are about to order another!

    I loved this box so much. The flavours really sang. I was so impressed with the quantity – really good value – and the quality was nothing short of amazing. I can’t usually afford to eat food from chefs of such a high standard. The curries and breads and rice were an absolutely delicious treat and I will certainly be ordering more boxes in future.
