Beef Pepper Fry – Kerala
Spicy dry curry from the South Indian state of Kerala, beef cooked with cracked black pepper, toasted coriander seed and cumin, and then sautéed with caramelised onion, bell peppers and curry leaves.
Commonly known in Kerala as ‘Beef Ularthiyathu’ mean stirred/roasted beef, this pepper fry is a proud symbol of culinary heritage with history stretching back to the first century from the Syrian Christian community in South India. With the first reference of beef preparations slow roasting and frying the meat with native spices long before modern cookbooks even documented it. These days it’s you find it as a great comfort food at roadside shops and family gatherings.
