Marinaded 2.5kg leg of lamb with 4 vegetarian dishes, rice and naan!
Aktar Islam’s GBM winning recipe, which serves up to 6 people. After a short break off the menu as the UK farming industry settled down we are pleased to announce that the much beloved smoky leg of lamb that so many of you enjoyed over lockdown is now back on the menu!
The huge 2.5/3kg leg that for many became a welcomed alternative to the Sunday roast or an amazing centre piece for a family dinner is back for a limited period. Every week it will arrive with a selection of four traditional vegan/vegetarian curries, our amazing aromatic pilau and fluffy naan breads.
As with all of our generously portioned boxes it’s not just for that one sitting and it was lovely to see all the amazing creations you all made with the leftovers, from spiced lamb sandwiches, Indian wraps even to a spiced shepherd’s pie and so many soups! We can’t wait to see how creative you all get with your boxes!

We had this meal yesterday and invited the in-laws round as the leg was 5.5lbs in old money so a bit more than me and the missus could shift. There was plenty of meat for us all and even some left over for inclusion in a Red Hyderabad curry tonight.
Yes we like curry!!
We found cooking the leg of lamb to be as straightforward as the included instructions described. We like our meat medium well done to be honest and so we cooked it a bit longer than required, we accept that many folk prefer lamb pink, so each to their own l guess.
One tip, try and avoid cooking the leg in anything white as the juices and coatings can bake on and although l soaked it overnight it still took some elbow grease to shift it.
The accompanying dishes were a great match for the lamb. Some easily recognised exotic veg in there, too exotic for the sister in law who had to ask… okra l think it was.
The weight of spice as with all the dishes we have had so far was medium l think l would describe it as….. as one who has raised the bar to Phal in the past… but we learn do we not!
We love the naan breads they are not heavy and stodgy but thinner and substantial.
All in all my wife says it took all the hassle of preparing the meal and what more can you really say.
Well done to Aktar and the team, this is definitely something we would consider having again once we have polished off the tandoori barbecue goodies we still have in the freezer.

We had the leg of lamb and the 4 veggie curries plus aromatic rice and 8 nans yesterday. It arrived in perfect condition from the courier. The lamb was just below freezing in the middle so we let it slowly come to room temperature. It was all amazing! This was a treat for my Mum’s birthday – 4 of us are really well, and there was loads left over which my mum took away. I love it keeps in the fridge for 3 days or can be frozen. A real treat – 100% recommend. Lamb and marinade was superb – the curries were special and the rice was a touch special. The nans are slightly below par compared tot he rest but that may be just the bread doesn’t lend itself to this process.

We purchased the Leg of Lamb Box to celebrate the end of Ramadan (Month of Fasting) which culminates in Eid-ul-Fitr. I normally cook on Eid day as do many muslim households across the world but this year due to ill health and a hospital stay we decided to have a change. Food is at the heart of all Eid celebrations and we couldn’t think of anything better than meals provided from a 2 star Michelin chef! As we are foodies we were eagerly looking forward to our Akhtar at Home delivery.
The box contained a pre-marinated Leg of Lamb, 4 x vegetable side dishes (Bhuna Aloo, Kadela Curry, Channai Brinjal Massala and Dal Bhagara), 2 x Signature Pilau and 8 x Naan. All items arrived via courier, packaged securely in dry ice and was still frozen. The aroma from the oven filled the kitchen as the Leg of Lamb roasted, it smelt delicious! The lb was tender and full of flavour from the marinade. The 4 side dishes were warmed individually on the stove adding 50ml of water to each and some chopped fresh coriander. This elevated each dish further. The rice was warmed in the microwave and the naan placed into the oven as it was hot from the Lamb roast. I made a small simple side salad to accompany this meal.
The food was spectacular and certainly gave a wow factor for Eid day celebrations. Each side dish had its own individual flavour which accompanied the naan and rice beautifully. All of the side dishes complimented one another and worked together with the lamb. The quality of the dishes, generous portion sizes and taste of the food was superb. Certainly the best decision we made for our special meal.
The food was shared with neighbours and some packed up for my son heading back to Uni.
Akhtar and the team knocked it out of the park! Thank you for providing incredible, tasty, high quality food at an affordable price for people who want something a bit extra special. We will certainly be trying out some other dishes in the future.
